SWALCLIFFE PARK EQUESTRIAN HUNTER TRIALS

5thOctober, 2013

Swalcliffe Park Equestrian’s busy calendar of events continued into October, with their hunter trials on Saturday 5thOctober. Classes ranged from 80cm to 1m and were well subscribed.

“It was a great run for people preparing for their last British Eventing event of the season,” said organiser Sarah Beveridge. “We also had a lot of people bringing young horses and ponies for experience on grass before the winter sets in.”

Sarah and the team at Swalcliffe decided to donate money from this event to the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance with £2.00 from every entry going to the charity.

The 90cm pairs class was won by mother and daughter combination Jenny and Meg Hoskins.

I really loved the course and it was different to what we’ve jumped previously at Swalcliffe,” said Jenny, who enjoys spending time hunting with the North Cotswold and team chasing with her 13-year-old daughter. When I walked it I initially thought it was quite up to height, so was a little worried about Meg.”

The 90cm individual class was won by Jenny Graham — a member of the North Cotswold Hunt branch of the Pony Club — riding Island Boy.

Mimi Roberts Amity Thwaites triumphed in the 80cm pairs (pictured). This young duo are both active members of the Heythrop Hunt branch of the Pony Club and are regular competitors at Swalcliffe.

In the individual section event rider Imogen Gloag took the spoils riding young horse Flint. Imogen has recently returned from Jardy, France, where she was representing Great Britain at the Junior European Eventing Championships.

Local rider Hannah Allen won the last class of the day — the 1m — with Teddy. Hannah events at BE100 and novice level and works for event horse and working hunter producer Sally Taylor.

Swalcliffe’s final hunter trial of the season — organised by Oxford Riding Club — will run on Sunday 27thOctober. For more information and to enter online visit www.swalcliffeparkequestrian.co.uk
